Course Summary:
How and why does civilization develop? Students will address this fundamental question throughout the semester. The course looks at man’s transition from prehistoric times through the dawn of civilization to the collapse of the Roman Empire. An analysis of man’s political, economic, social, spiritual, and intellectual development through the centuries will provide a foundation for critical understanding and appreciation of the inherent values of both Western and Eastern civilizations and their impact upon the modern world.
